Lives on the Ground: Documentary Premier - Being Near, Faith in Kherson
Last week and Insulate Ukraine team member, Zachary Tarrant, one of the key voices behind our storytelling, premiered a short documentary in partnership with the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.
Being Near – Faith in the Frontline City of Kherson is a powerful short film about Kherson Priest Valentyn Horokhovskyi and his congregation. It offers a rare, intimate look into life in Kherson where civilians are under daily attack.
The situation in Kherson is deteriorating daily. Residents liken the Russian attacks to a human safari — targeting civilians on the streets, their homes, churches, ambulances. It is a place where choosing to stay means living under constant threat. And yet, people do stay. They rebuild. They carry on.

Why it matters to our work:
Insulate Ukraine operates in Kherson — delivering warmth, light, and protection by sealing shattered windows with our rapid-response insulation kits. This film shows exactly why our work matters. Every repaired window helps someone hold on to their home, their dignity, and their future.
What you can do:
– Share the film with friends or family who may not understand what’s happening on the ground
– Donate to support our emergency window replacement work.
– Write to your elected officials and tell them Ukraine still needs our support
Thank you for being part of this fight for light, shelter, and survival.

Lives on the Ground: A series of short vignettes told through text, photography and film. These stories are the unfiltered voices of the people that we meet and represent our commitment to the individual human experience during moments of change, conflict, or catastrophe.
Our ability to highlight voices like Nadia’s stems directly from our on-the-ground efforts in Ukraine where we encounter extraordinary individuals with compelling stories daily. The continuation of this crucial work relies on the generous support of donors like you. Please consider making a donation.
