Voices for Freedom

On 13 June 2025, Oleksandra Matviichuk joined Guardian diplomatic editor Patrick Wintour at the Institut Français in London for a conversation on justice, accountability, and the human cost of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Matviichuk spoke about the work of the Center for Civil Liberties, which has documented mass atrocities, war crimes against Ukrainian civilians, the treatment of captives, and the illegal deportation and reprogramming of Ukrainian children.

At the centre of the discussion was a clear warning: peace cannot be defined only in territorial terms. A lasting peace must include justice for victims, the return of captives and abducted children, meaningful security guarantees, and support for rebuilding Ukraine.

The event brought together supporters of Ukraine, human rights advocates, and members of the international community at a moment when sustained attention and solidarity remain essential.

For Insulate Ukraine, the evening also connected international advocacy with practical humanitarian action. Half of the event’s ticket proceeds supported our work helping families make war-damaged homes warm, safe, and habitable again.
