Justice Under Siege

On 12 June 2025, Insulate Ukraine joined the Royal Society of Arts and the Ukrainian Institute London for a discussion on justice, accountability, and the human consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk spoke with journalist and author Gillian Tett about the cycle of impunity, the realities of life in temporarily occupied territories, and the urgent need to pursue justice for victims of war crimes.

The conversation addressed cultural erasure, child abduction, torture, and the wider human cost of the invasion. A central message throughout the evening was that peace cannot exist without dignity, accountability, and justice for those affected by violence.

Insulate Ukraine founder Harry Blakiston Houston also shared how the organisation’s emergency replacement windows are helping families remain in damaged homes while longer-term reconstruction continues.

Closing remarks were delivered by Dr Olesya Khromeychuk, Director of the Ukrainian Institute London, who reflected on the importance of keeping Ukrainian voices visible and maintaining international support for both humanitarian and civil society initiatives.
