The Insulate Ukraine Window
Using toolkits from Cambridge Design Lab and Makespace, Insulate Ukraine developed an emergency replacement window that is transparent, insulating, shatterproof and recyclable. This PET window represents a new model for humanitarian aid: what becomes possible when local knowledge and context meets engineering.
Other options force a compromise. OSB boards secure a building but leave it dark, cold and exposed. Double glazed glass and Perspex offer transparency and insulation but are costly and require professional installation. Moreover, glass shatters dangerously under blast.
