Oleksandra Matviichuk

Oleksandra Matviichuk is a Ukrainian human rights lawyer and civil society leader working to defend freedom, human dignity and democratic institutions.

She heads the Center for Civil Liberties, the first Ukrainian organisation to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The organisation works to protect human rights and strengthen democracy in Ukraine and across the wider region.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in 2014, Oleksandra and her colleagues have worked to document human rights violations and war crimes, preserve the stories of victims and pursue accountability.

Her support for Insulate Ukraine reflects the connection between human rights and the material conditions of civilian life. Families living under attack have the right to warmth, safety, dignity and the ability to remain in their own homes.
