Faith Under Fire: Religious Freedom and Human Dignity in Occupied Ukraine

Insulate Ukraine is delighted to co-host a special St Laurence Lecture at Ampleforth College with Ukrainian human rights defender and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk.

As head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Oleksandra has spent years documenting human rights violations and advocating for justice and accountability in Ukraine. The Center for Civil Liberties was awarded the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize for its work promoting human rights and documenting war crimes.

Through a panel discussion and audience Q&A, Oleksandra will explore the realities facing religious communities in Russian-occupied Ukraine, where religious freedom, conscience and human dignity have come under sustained pressure.

The discussion will consider the persecution of religious communities, the destruction of places of worship, and wider questions of moral courage, religious liberty and the international community’s responsibility when fundamental rights are threatened.
