Insulate Ukraine’s “The Meaning of Home” Event Raises Vital Funds for Rebuilding War-Damaged Homes in Ukraine
A charity auction and dinner organised by Insulate Ukraine has raised vital funds to help rebuild homes in war-torn Ukraine. The event, titled The Meaning of Home, took place at London’s Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce, attracting an international audience of business leaders and philanthropists.
The evening was hosted by television personality Mel Giedroyc, and featured a moving speech by Nobel Laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk, an international human rights lawyer and expert in the prosecution of Russian war crimes.
Guests were treated to a dinner by renowned Ukrainian chef Olia Hercules, whose culinary expertise brought the flavours of Ukraine to life. Her dishes celebrated the rich cultural heritage of her homeland, adding a poignant connection to the evening’s theme of home and resilience.
The night’s proceeds will go directly to funding the installation of emergency shatterproof windows in homes damaged by bomb blasts. This initiative, which aims to protect those living on the frontline, will ensure thousands of Ukrainian households benefit from vital insulation and security as winter approaches.
The occasion raised £260,000 which will fund the installation of 17,600 shatterproof, insulating windows in 2,200 war-damaged homes across Ukraine. This will provide warmth and security to over 3,300 people this winter. Insulate Ukraine’s partners Metinvest, DTEK, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and Greater Good Charities are helping make the roll out of these new windows possible.
Several staff members from the EBRD volunteered at the event, offering their time and effort to ensure its success. As a key partner in Insulate Ukraine’s mission, the EBRD has consistently highlighted the importance of hands-on involvement in projects that have a tangible impact on the ground in Ukraine. This innovative design is transparent, more secure, recyclable, and still shatterproof. Having recently won the Emerging Design Medal at the London Design Festival for their Version 1 window, Insulate Ukraine continues to push the boundaries of humanitarian innovation at an unprecedented pace. The funds raised are a crucial step in Insulate Ukraine’s mission to deliver practical, life-saving solutions for those living on the frontline. As winter approaches, these efforts will provide much-needed warmth and protection for families displaced and affected by the ongoing war.
