Justice as the Foundation for Peace:

A Conversation with Oleksandra Matviichuk and Lord Moore of Etchingham

On June 12 2025, Oleksandra Matviichuk spoke in the House of Lords in a poignant discussion chaired by Lord Moore of Etchingham.

The session moved beyond abstract geopolitics to the human reality of the 88,000+ war crimes documented by Matviichuk’s team since the 2022 invasion. The central theme was clear: peace cannot exist without justice.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, where Matviichuk addressed the harrowing reality of the 27,000+ Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia. She ended with a powerful gift to Lord Moore: a book by the late Victoria Amelina, a Ukrainian writer killed by a Russian missile while documenting war crimes. It served as a stark reminder that behind every statistic is a voice that must not be silenced.

Insulate Ukraine was honoured to help facillitate this event.

Insulate Ukraine founder, Harry, developed the initial Insulate Ukraine window at MakeSpace, Cambridge, following his time on the ground after the full-scale invasion. These windows were insulating, shatterproof and light-giving - three key needs not being met by current humanitarian repairs. By the winter of 2023, our first window was installed in Izyum.

Since then, we have focused on constant, user-led evolution. Our Nikopol team spearheaded the second iteration, driven by their firsthand experience in the field:

"After 12 months of installing the original design, we identified two key challenges: the windows lacked transparency and didn't fully secure the buildings. Through the 'Renovation' project, our team collaborated to ensure the people we serve have the warmest, brightest homes possible. Within a month, we developed this new version, and we are thrilled to see it rolled out across all our teams."

This second iteration features transparent PET sheeting, superior sealing, and a streamlined frame, making it more effective and aesthetically pleasing

Now, we are launching Version 3: a fully self-installable window that can be sent via post. This innovation allows us to bypass logistics hurdles and deliver vital aid to high-risk areas faster than ever before.
